Citroën Saxo

1995 - 2003

All but identical to the Peugeot 106 despite the fact that they share no body panels in common, the Saxo was launched in 1995 to replace the AX In fact, both the 106 and Saxo are derived from the AX; so far from being a "badge-engineered Peugeot", it is the 106 which is a "badge-engineered Citroën".

The car was facelifted in 1997 and now features the "corporate nose".

The two pictures above depict the original nose treatment.

Saxo is available in a variety of trim levels with a multitude of engine choices and two body styles - a three door hatchback and a five door hatchback.

The Saxo was also the basis of one of the earliest experimental hybrid cars, the Dynavolt and a fully electric version - the Saxo éléctrique.

The entry level model is the Saxo X, available in either 3 or 5 door versions and with a choice of 1,1i petrol or 1,5 diesel engines.

The Saxo SX is available in both 3 and 5 door versions with a choice of 1,1i, 1,4i and 1,5 D engines with an automatic gearbox available with the 1,4i engine.  Electric power steering is fitted as standard.

The Saxo Exclusive is available in both 3 and 5 door versions with a choice of 1,4i and 1,5 D engines with automatic transmission available with the petrol engine.

The Saxo VTR is equipped with a 1,6i engine and is available in 3 door form only. It is fitted with flared wheel arches and has bumpers and door mirrors painted in the body colour.

The Saxo VTS is powered by a 16 valve, 1,6i engine and this has provided the basis for the very successful competition cars.
