All but
identical to the Peugeot
106 despite the fact that they share no body
panels in common, the Saxo was launched in 1995 to
replace the AX In fact,
both the 106 and Saxo are derived from the AX; so far
from being a "badge-engineered Peugeot", it is the 106
which is a "badge-engineered Citroën".
The
car was facelifted
in 1997 and now features the "corporate nose".
The
two pictures above depict the original nose
treatment.
Saxo
is
available in a variety of trim levels with a
multitude of engine choices and two body styles - a
three door hatchback and a five door hatchback.
The Saxo was also the basis of one of the earliest
experimental hybrid cars, the Dynavolt
and a fully electric version - the Saxo
éléctrique.
|
The

or 5 door versions and with a choice of 1,1i petrol or
1,5 diesel engines.
|
|
|
The Saxo

provided the basis for the very successful competition
