. THE MARKET
1. H segment
The H segment contains saloon, estate, all road
and even
convertible and sports coupé cars. The
segment overall
represented approximately 14% of the total car
market in 2004, with
357,000 sales.
|
|
For the last ten years, the H segment
percentage share of the total car
market has remained stable, increasing slightly
from 12% in 1994 to
13.9% in 2004.
|
|
2. C6 competitors
The H segment is dominated by the three German
brands:
Mercedes, BMW and Audi, taking 48% of the total
H segment sales in the
UK.
The New Citroën C6 will compete in the 4 door
saloon sub-segment which
totalled 158,000 registrations in 2004 i.e. 44%
of the total H segment.
Within the 4 door saloon sub-segment C6 has 7
major competitors:
-
BMW 5 Series
-
Mercedes E Class
-
Jaguar S-Type
-
Audi A6
-
Volvo S80
-
Saab 9-5
-
Peugeot 607
The German brands dominate taking more than 70%
of sales among C6’s major competitors in 2004.
|
|
3. H segment
customer profiles
Customers buying H segment cars tend to be
older on average than all other car segments and
are more likely to be male.
However, there are two clear sub-groups:
purchasers of German cars
(BMW, Mercedes and Audi) and purchasers of
non—German cars (Jaguar,
Volvo, Saab etc) on the other.
The buyers of German cars (Group 1) tend to be
middle-aged and slightly
younger than the buyers in Group 2. As a
consequence, 80% of them are
in employment (as opposed to being in
retirement) and when buying a
car, they mainly" focus on style and.
performance. Purchasers of
non—German cars, are older on average and 30% of
them are retired. They
have no children at home and have more time for
themselves, more time
to simply enjoy life. They are looking for a car
providing an
outstanding level of comfort as well as an
excellent general
durability. Criteria such as style and.
performance come lower down on
their list of priorities.
The New C6, with its exclusive styling, has all
the required qualities
to appeal to both types of customers. It
reflects in a subtle way the
best of the luxury car market. It has a style
and shape that evokes the
two principal designs of the segment: saloon and
coupé.
All H~segment customers share core values such
as the willingness to
stand out from the crowd, and the desire to
initiate new trends rather
than imitate. They are connoisseurs and want a
car to reflect their
social position and make them feel special. For
buyers in both groups,
loyalty is the most significant parameter to
take into account when
buying an H segment car.
|
4. C6 target
customers
The target customer can be divided into three
different categories:
First, middle-aged
men (40-45)
and women to a lesser extent, in work, having no
more than 2 children
at home. They consider the car as a reflection
of their social
position. They will use the car intensively both
for professional and
personal use. They are equally retail or
business users and will buy C6
since it is truly different from competitors,
especially in terms of
exterior design and enables them to set
themselves apart from other
drivers.
Next, mature
men between 45 and 60,
employed, having either 1 child or none at home.
They buy C6 for
business and the car is part and parcel of their
remuneration. They
also buy C6 since it is a beautiful flagship for
their company,
conveying certain values and with all the
features of a true H segment
car i.e. state-of—the—art and innovative
equipment as well as powerful
engines.
Finally, older
men, over 60 who
will be mostly retired with no children at home.
They are obligation
free and less price—sensitive. They still lead
an active life and want
to treat themselves with this very special car.
They buy C6 since they
want to fulfil new dreams in a new step of their
life, therefore
it is important to focus on the outstanding
level of equipment and
beautiful original design of New Citroën C6.

III.
OVERVIEW OF STYLING, FEATURES AND BENEFITS
1. Emotive Styling
(a)
Exclusive exterior styling
The original design of New Citroën C6 combines
Citroën's
styling cues with those of an executive car. The
proportions and
profile immediately identify it as a member of
the Citroën family.
New Citroën C6 features a long front overhang
and short rear overhang
which along with the design lines, brings
powerful coupés to mind while
the impressive list of features is fitting of a
prestige saloon. The
design and shape of New Citroën C6 reflect the
emotional appeal of an
elegant, dynamic coupé with the proportions and
features of an
executive limousine. The attractive, imposing
profile of New Citroën C6
is showcased by its generous dimensions — 1.86 m
wide, 1.46 m high and
4.91 m long, with a 2.90 m wheelbase.
Length
and height comparison
|
|
|
At the front, New Citroën C6 features a wide grille,
with chrome—plated
chevrons and a wide ribbed bonnet. The chevrons span
across the nose to
the vertical headlamps, which extend. up onto the wings.
A long
wheelbase and flowing, aerodynamic profile give New
Citroën C6 real
presence, while suggesting space, stability and power.
The cabin size is highlighted by the long front and rear
doors and by
the large glazed area, which lets the light flood in.
The windows hug
the curve of the roof arch, which in turn blends
smoothly into the rear
pillars, in a subtle nod to coupé styling — an effect
that is taken one
step further by the frameless
doors.
These doors contribute to the fluidity of the side view
of the C6. When
the door is opened, the windows move down by 4 mm in
order to make it
easier to open the doors, moving the upper part of the
windows away
from the seal. When closing the door, the reverse upward
movement of
the window brings the windows completely flush with the
seal.
The rear quarter light is partially integrated into the
rear door, thus
extending the line of the body, and adding a further
touch to the car's
natural elegance. With a wheelbase
of 2,90 m — the longest in its
category — New Citroën C6 is exceptionally roomy. The
flat floor pan at
the back increases the impression of space and freedom,
and
considerably improves the room available in the rear.
At the rear, the design is particularly eye—catching. In
keeping with
the spirit of large Citroën cars of the past, Citroën C6
has a concave
rear window which extends down to the boot lid
and lights, thus adding
the finishing touch to the body style. Besides its
originality, the
concave shape provides excellent visibility and
highlights the generous
size of the boot. The New Citroën C6 boot offers
above—average
accessibility and an upper depth of 653 mm. A golf bag
fits
effortlessly widthways in the boot. A chrome strip
separates the
tailgate and the rear bumper, highlighting the width of
the body. The
rear bumper also incorporates a chrome twin exhaust
pipe.The
spearhead-shaped, coloured rear lights are positioned
atop the rear
wings where, slightly offset, they meet the roof arch.
Another key characteristic of the determined and
powerful—looking rear
end is the design of the rear pillars, which help to
protect the
tailgate and partially conceal the boot.
|
(b)
Refined interior styling
The interior of New Citroën C6 creates an immediate
impression of space
and comfort.
The pure lines of the dashboard, high—quality materials
and
comfortable, sculpted seats are an invitation to step on
board and
enjoy a relaxing ride. The clean, sculpted design of the
dashboard
consists of straight, parallel lines, symbolising
precision, and curved
lines, symbolising dynamics. The styling is both fluid
and simple. The
upper section features a multifunction screen, which is
almost a
natural extension of the console.
A
user friendly lay out
A user-friendly
approach to comfort is expressed by the
presentation of the spacious cabin, in which the various
functions are clearly laid out.
On—board instrumentation provides explicit, directly
understandable
information at the most relevant moment. To simplify
access to
information, the instrumentation has therefore been
divided up into three
zones:
- The console,
in front of the driver, is the preferential medium for
“driving” information
- The head-up display,
also in line with the driver, is ideal for
presentation of information and warning relating to
safety (fitted from Lignage)
- The central screen,
(centre of dashboard) features navigation information,
the on—board
computer, the telematics, audio, air-conditioning, and
configuration of
the vehicle systems.
The controls dedicated to the driver are brought
together around the steering wheel:
- The lights, wiper and audio switches are fitted as
on C5
and C8- The cruise control and speed limiter controls
are mounted on
eitherside of the steering wheel.
- The controls of the head—up display are located to
the right of the driver under the side vent.
- The cruise control and speed limiter controls are
mounted on either side of the steering wheel.
- The controls of the head-up display are located to
the right of the driver under the side vent.
|
|
Executive
seating
The seats accommodate
the occupants of New Citroën C6 in comfort,
providing excellent postural support for long journeys.
The central
rear seat is available for occasional use. Thus, the
vehicle is
homologated as a 5-seater In order to respond to the
different
morphology of the occupants, the seats of the driver and
the front
passenger feature multiple adjustments:
- From level one upwards, New Citroën C6 offers driver
and
front passenger's seats with 3 possible electric
adjustments: length,
height and seat base angle adjustment.
- On Lignage versions, New Citroën C6 adds two
additional
electric adjustments for the driver (5 in total): a
reclining" back
plus lumbar adjustment.
- On
Exclusive versions, the electric recline and lumbar
adjustments are also provided for the passenger. In
addition, the
vehicle can memorise driver seat and door mirrors
adjustment. Each
vehicle has two memories i.e. for two individual
drivers. They can be
activated by the two memory buttons next to the
driver's interior door
opening handle. On Exclusive, all passengers can also
benefit from
heated seats. On the front seats, the heating is
distributed across the
seat base and the back. It can be set to three
positions (low medium
and high) and works only with the engine running. On
therear seats, the
heating is distributed only to the base of the seat
with a simple
on/off switch.
With the Pack Lounge option available on Exclusive
models, New
Citroën C6 can be fitted with premium comfort individual
seats which
are electricallycontrolled, allowing the rear passengers
to obtain the ideal relaxed seating position. These “TGV”
style electric rear seats are a feature which
was, up until now, the prerogative only of Limousines.
|
HOW DO THE “TGV” SEATS
WORK?
The rear seats consist of two high—comfort individual
armchairs, the
position of which slides electronically, offering
passengers a position
for optimal rest and relaxation. The controls are
conveniently laid out
near the electric window button.
|
|
The rear passenger can also adjust the longitudinal
position
of the front passenger seat, using the control fitted
into the end of
the rear centralarmrest. With the front seat fully
forward, the rear passenger then has 995 mm legroom.
|
|
Note: when the outer seats are in line, the central
seat is available for occasional use
|
Modern design
The Lids of the storage
compartments in each of the four doors feature
a high quality wood finish and a half—moon
design
in keeping with the rest of the styling of the
dashboard. These large
storage compartments, inspired by contemporary furniture
design,
illustrate the concept of “lounge on wheels”.
By simply pressing the top of the half—moon, the New
Citroën C6
passenger slides the panel downwards, thus revealing a
space that can
take an A4 file.
Pressing the top of the half—moon once more closes the
panel.
|
|
The naturally bright interior creates a real feeling of
space
and considerably enhances onboard comfort during long
journeys. An
electric parking brake frees up space in the central
console, which
also offers a large number of stowage compartments.
|
2. Executive comfort
Each feature of the cabin contributes to the overall
comfort:
soundproofing, thermal comfort and a specially designed
suspension
system.
(a)
Acoustic Comfort
Laminated side windows
(on all versions) filter out wind noise and exterior
noise to provide
high~level acoustic comfort. They also contribute to the
security of
the New Citroën. C6, which. has gained. a five—star
rating from
Thatcham.
The laminated side windows with reinforced acoustic
insulation
consist of two sheets of glass, with a plastic
interlayer, offering
excellent acoustic properties. This system absorbs sound
vibrations
over a wide range of frequencies, offering an excellent
level of
performance in terms of soundinsulation.
The glass and plastic windows are virtually
impenetrable. In
the event of accidental breakage or a break—in, the
glass sticks to the
plastic interlayer and remains in place. This prevents
injury in the
event of breakage, as well as providing a barrier to
stop people or
objects from being thrown out of the car in the event of
an accident.
It also offers efficient protection against vandalism
and break—ins.
In addition to the laminated side windows, other
features also
contribute to the low interior noise levels, such as the
soundproofing
on the bulkhead, active engine mountings, and the
hydroelastic rear
cross—member mounts. Outstanding acoustics and vibration
control create
a peaceful atmosphere in the cabin, for the pleasure and
comfort of
both driver and passengers.
(b)
Thermal Comfort
The pleasure of driving and travelling is enhanced by
the
exceptional thermal comfort available to all passengers.
New Citroën C6
features automatic air
conditioning with two-zone temperature and
distribution control
(on all versions). This two—zone system provides
individual comfort for
occupants at the front. The driver and front passenger
can adjust the
temperature andintensity of air flow independently.
Air conditioning
controls
|
|
At the rear, a relay blower lets passengers select the
air flow and creates a uniform temperature more rapidly.
Rear relay blower
controls
|
|
In another innovative move, New Citroën C6 is equipped
with a soft diffusion
system.
This system is designed to create a uniform blanket of
air around the
passengers, providing exceptional thermal comfort with
no draughts.
This ensures a softer air flow, with the air being
diffused through the
front air vents and rear relay blower.
New Citroën C6 is also equipped with a heat-reflecting
windscreen. It provides real benefits in terms
of thermal comfort:
- - a reduction in temperature in the front of the
cabin when the vehicle is in the sun (up to 8°C
reduction at dashboard level)
- a reduction in the time it takes to achieve a
comfortable temperature
- a substantial reduction in the sensation of heat on
skin caused by the sun shining through the windows.
|
c)
Optimised suspension
New Citroën C6 is able to offer unrivalled standards of
comfort, particularly in terms of suspension and
damping, vibration,
road noise, and steering.
New Citroën C6 boasts impeccable road manners thanks to
its original
combination of multi—link axles and a suspension system
featuring
electronically controlled springing and damping. As a
result, New
Citroën C6 steers a precise course in all circumstances,
even on
uneven, bumpy roads.
This virtually eliminates steering vibrations while
optimising cornering precision.
|
Hydractive
3+ suspension (on all versions)
New Citroën C6's hydractive
3+ suspension
brings major improvements in comfort and refinement
compared with
conventional coil spring systems. It is coupled with a
damping control
system that can be modified instantaneously to place the
emphasis on
comfort or sport. The suspension maintains the vehicle
at a constant
height, regardless of the vehicle load and number of
passengers. To
maintain vehicle attitude, body height is monitored in
real time by
height sensors on each wheel, which supply data to the
electronic
control module.
The system can automatically lower clearance by 12
millimetres above 70
mph, thus optimising road—holding at high speed as well
as fuel
consumption and reducing the effects of side wind. When
the road is
highly uneven and low speed is necessary, the suspension
control unit
increases ground clearance by around 12 millimetres
above the normal
position. The driver can therefore continue with
complete peace of mind
over difficult ground, without worrying about damaging
the car.
This system ensures optimised driving pleasure and
truly exceptional comfort.
|
Variable
damping (AMVAR) (on all versions)
The Hydractive 3+ suspension is, for the first time,
coupled with
variable damping which is controlled by the suspension
computer.
The variable damping (AMVAR) system is a system of
controlling the
dampers of a vehicle that makes it possible to alter the
laws of
damping in order to promote either comfort or driving
dynamics. The
damping is controlled via 16 different “modes” by the
control computer.
The Hydractive 3+ suspension already' makes it possible
to vary
suspension rigidity in relation to driving parameters.
Variable damping
reinforces the performance of the Hydractive 3+ by
adjusting the speed
of travel of the wheel in relation to the body. Body
movements are thus
controlled, for perfect road holding even at high speeds
on a minor
road.
|
HOW
DOES THE VARIABLE DAMPING WORK?
The controlled AMVAR suspension system on the C6 has
been specifically developed to meet Citroën's exacting
standards.
This system calls on technologies that have, up until
now, been
reserved for the top-of—the—range models of specialist
manufacturers.
The system is based on 4 variable absorbers controlled
electronically,
with 16 “modes” of absorption. Each absorber is fitted
with a clearance
sensor making it possible to control each of the wheels
independently.
Moreover, alongside the data from the 4 clearance
sensors, the system
computer takes into account parameters from the
vehicle's other
computers. It can thus implement particularly
high—performance control
strategies under various conditions.
|
3. Innovative Equipment
Loyal to its innovative tradition , Citroën has
equipped New Citroën C6 with state—of—the—art
technology.
(a)
Speed-sensitive rear spoiler
(On all versions)
Integrated on New Citroën C6, on the top of the boot
lid, is a
speed—sensitive rear spoiler to improve the air flow and
thus make it
possible to improve the aerodynamics along with more
efficient braking
at high speeds.
HOW
DOES THE SPEED-SENSITIVE REAR SPOILER WORK?
- When the vehicle goes over 40 mph, the
speed—sensitive rear
spoiler moves from position O (fully retracted) to
position 1
(intermediary position not affecting visibility to the
rear)
- As soon as the driver goes over 85 mph, it moves
into position 2 (fully extended). The drag factor
(Scz) is then optimal.
- For stability of operation, the speed—sensitive rear
spoiler goes back into position 1 only when the speed
falls back to
under 70 mph, and closes completely at 15 mph.
|
|
(b)
Head-up Display
From Lignage)
New Citroën C6 is the first Citroën to feature a system
that is rarely encountered in the automotive market: a Head—up
Display.
Key driving information — such as speed and navigation
data — is
projected onto the windscreen in the driver's direct
line of vision.
The Head—up Display reduces the time the driver will
spend reading the
information on the dashboard, making a marked
contribution to active
safety.
In actual fact, by superimposing information about
driving onto the
view of the road, the time it takes to acquire this
information is
considerably reduced, and the driver does not have to
search around for
information.
The head-up display has 3 permanent displays:
- Vehicle speed
- STOP indicator
- ESP indicator
In addition, the driver can select to display the
following:
- Low fuel warning system
- Service indicator
- Navigation information
- Main beam indicator
The device can also be deactivated.
|
|
Dedicated controls have been arranged on the dashboard,
to the right of the steering wheel. These controls allow
the driver:
- to switch on or turn off the display
- to adjust the height of the image
- to adjust the brightness of the image
- to select the information to be displayed (except
permanent displays).
|
|
HOW
DOES THE HEAD-UP DISPLAY WORK?
Data is transmitted to a dynamic display unit (video
screen or
liquid crystal screen) located on the dashboard. The
screen image is
then relayed via an optic system made up of a lens and
mirrors, which.
projects it onto the windscreen, using a window built
into the upper
section of the dashboard, at driver eye level.
This receives a virtual image, which seems to position
itself not on
the windscreen but beyond, at the front of the vehicle
(green arrow).
The driver therefore keeps looking into the distance,
instead of having
to adjust his vision to the dashboard (red arrow).
|
|
The Head—up Display makes a significant contribution to
safety
with its direct read-out. Drivers assimilate data more
quickly and do
not have to look away from the road. A total of 0.5
seconds are saved,
based on the time normally taken by drivers to look away
from the road
and refocus on the screen in front of them. At 70mph,
this is
equivalent to 15 metres of travel or 3 large car
lengths.
|
(c)
An electric parking brake
(On all versions)
New Citroën C6 features an electric parking brake linked
to the rear discs
HOW
DOES THE ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE WORK?
The electric parking brake applies to the rear wheels
and is made up of:
- a control unit (with two brake cables) fitted under
the body
- a control panel on the central console.
With New Citroën C6, putting on and taking off the
parking
brake is effortless: the driver simply has to activate
using the switch
provided. In addition to providing ease of use, the
electric parking
brake also provides emergency braking if the main
braking circuit
fails, via a simplified ABS,preventing any locking of
the rear wheels.
(d)
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
(On Exclusive versions)
New Citroën C6 is fitted with a Lane Departure Warning
System
(LDWS), available on C4 and C5, which is one of the
first systems
designed to counterthe problem of drowsiness at the
wheel.
Once activated, the LDWS detects any unintentional lane
changes on a motorway or major road at speeds of 50 mph
and over. A
vibrating mechanism mounted in the car seat is activated
on the side
corresponding to the direction of vehicle drift in order
to alert the
driver, who can then steer the car back on course.
(e)
Xenon Dual-function Directional headlamps
(On all C6 and directional function from Lignage)
New Citroën C6 is fitted with electronically controlled
Xenon
Dual-function Directional headlamps to improve
visibility when
cornering. These intelligent headlamps incorporate an
elliptical
bi-Xenon directional module, which works in both the
low—beam and
high—beam positions to ensure excellent visibility at
night or in bad
weather. These headlamps improve visibility around bends
and help the
driver to distinguish other road users and possible
obstacles. This is
an important advantage in terms of safety since, at a
speed of 70 mph,
the car covers more than 30 metres every second. Citroën
first
introduced this useful innovation on the DS — another
great Citroën —
although the controls were operated mechanically at the
time.
In addition, New Citroën C6 benefits from:
- Daytime running lights
- “Guide me home” lights
(f)
Electrochrome door and rear-view mirrors
(From Lignage)
The rear-view mirror and the door mirrors on the driver
and
passenger sides are electrochrome automatic mirrors.
This function
allows automatic shift to night—time mode (the mirror
becomes slightly
tinted) in order to reduce the glare of following
vehicles. For optimum
rear visibility, if the mirror is tinted, it clears
automatically on
engaging reverse.
(g)
Front and rear parking assistance
(From Lignage)
Front and rear parking assistance is a driving aid that
has
become essential for urban dwellers, and in particular
for vehicles
such as New Citroën C6, which have a long wheelbase.
Sensors located in
the front and rear bumpers detect any obstacles close to
the vehicle.
The bleeping loudspeaker and the picture on the
multifunction screen
tell the driver exactly how close he or she is to the
obstacle detected.
(h)
Butterfly windscreen wipers
(On all versions)
New Citroën C6 is also the first vehicle in the range
to
feature new butterfly windscreen wipers. Two opposed
arms controlled by
two synchronized electric motors, perform a butterfly
type movement,
allowing the blades to cover a wide area of the
windscreen. In
addition, the flatblade design of these wipers improves
the quality of
wiping and increases the visual field (removal of metal
support of
wiper and rubber section shortened).
(i)
Rain sensors
(On all versions)
Using a rain sensor positioned on the windscreen, this
function controls the automatic activation and speed of
the wipers. The
driver no longer has tooperate the wiping function and
can therefore concentrate on the road.
(j)
The black panel function
(On all versions)
To facilitate visual comfort when. driving at night,
New
Citroën. C6 has a “Black Panel” function. This function
makes it
possible to turn off the displays on the dashboard and
central screen,
with the exception of the speedometer and warning
indicators. Each of
the displays comes back on when requested, whether by
the driver
(change of overspeed instruction for example), or by the
passenger (for
example, adjustment of air conditioning temperature) or
by the car's
computers (switching on a warning indicator).
(k)
High-tech communication equipment
To increase on—board comfort, the driver has a range of
high tech equipment to hand.
A
high—performance NaviDrive system (on Exclusive
version)
New Citroén C6 offers a new—generation NaviDrive system
available as an option on C6 (level 1) and Lignage and
as standard on
Exclusive.
It offers a number of essential functions: a GPS
navigation system, a GSM dual—band hands-free
telephone with access to the address book and audio
system
(radio and 6-CD autochanger). At the same time,
passengers can use the
screen or voice synthesis function to play back SMS
messages received
over the phone.
The main functions can be accessed easily using the
steering—wheel
controls, which can also be used for the voice
recognition and
synthesis functions. NaviDrive can be controlled by the
user's voice,
which is very useful for making phone calls, finding
your way, or
accessing the address book without risk. The system can
also be
operated directly using the unit built into the
dashboard, whilst the
functions are displayed on a large 16:9 colour screen.
A
high—level performance JBL Hi—Fi (on Exclusive
version)
JBL, one of the world's leading audio specialists, has
developed a
hi-fi system especially for New Citroën C6. It will be
available as an
option on Lignage and fitted as standard on Exclusive.
The new system
is designed to offer customised
acoustics that are worthy of an executive car.
The system consists of ten loudspeakers in six
locations, and is
controlled by a special amplifier. This unit's acoustic
settings are
defined and optimised for the cabin of New Citroën C6,
allowing the
driver and passengers to enjoy excellent sound quality
at all times.

4. Uncompromising safety and
security
Citroën's uncompromising approach to safety, and the
prevention of accidents, is a key priority.
(a)
An advanced braking system
(On all versions)
The New Citroën C6's high-performance
braking system
features four ventilated discs. With the dedicated
braking assistance
and control functions such as stability control (ESP)
and traction
control (ASR), the driver is able to maintain control of
the car and
keep on course even in the most difficultdriving
situations.
In terms of passive safety, New Citroën C6 features
efficient
restraint systems for all the occupants, together with a
structure
designed to resistthe most violent impacts.
(b)
The body structure
New Citroën C6 incorporates the passive safety features
of the Group's
platform 3 vehicles. Introduced with the C5, this
platform base sets
the highest standards of driver and passenger
protection, as
illustrated by the C5's exceptional results in EuroNCAP
tests.
(c)
Active bonnet
(On all versions)
During an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian,
the amount of
space between the bonnet and the engine plays a major
role in
“protecting” the pedestrian from serious injury. On New
Citroën C6, the
active bonnet system makes it possible to overcome the
lack of free
space between the engine and the bonnet, thanks to a
device that
automatically lifts the bonnet up in the event of an
impact, thus
providing “protection” for the pedestrian.
|
|
This device is specifically designed to absorb the
energy of the distortion.
Raising the bonnet upwards makes it possible to release
more space for
the distortion of the bonnet and to thus absorb more
energy, limiting
the impactof a pedestrian's head.
(d)
Nine airbags
(On all versions)
The deployment pressure and volume of the two front
airbags depend on the severity of impact. A
20-litre steering column airbag
provides improved protection for the driver's knees,
shins and tibia by
limiting any impact with the steering column, which also
“collapses” by
80 mm. On the outside edge of the seats (excl. middle
rear), lateral
airbags protect the thorax and abdomen of the passengers
in the event
of a side impact. For head protection, New Citroën C6
has curtain
airbags that also protect front as well as rear
passengers. A cut—off
device makes it possible to neutralise the front
passenger airbag
operation using a switch key, so that a child seat can
be fitted in the
front, whilst an indicator on the dashboard lets the
driver know
whether it is in activated mode or not.
The four passenger seats can take a child seat, and the
two rear side seats have a 3-point Isofix fixing device.
(e)
Indicators and seatbelts’ sound warning
(On all versions)
New Citroën C6 is fitted with an indicator advising
that belts are not being worn on all 5 seats.
(f)
Active head restraints
(On all versions)
Active head restraints prevent
whiplash injuries
in the event of a rear impact. The force generated by
the passengers‘
upper bodies pressing against the seat backs activates a
lever system
that moves the head restraints forward to cradle the
occupant's head,
and thus avoid strain on the neck.
(g)
EuroNcap rating
EuroNCAP rating
is still to be confirmed but is expected to be highly
competitive versus key competitors.
(h)
Tyre pressure warning
(On all versions)
To ensure maximum safety at all time, New Citroën C6 is
equipped with tyre pressure warning as standard.
|
5. Guarantee
New Citroën C6 has the following vehicle warranties:
-
3 years’ warranty — 2 years’ manufacturer's
warranty, plus a no fee
customer option of 1 year's dealer provided warranty
limited to 60,000 miles
- A comprehensive
Roadside Assistance Package is also provided
for a period of 3 years in line with the 3 year
guarantee
- Anti-corrosion
warranty for 12 years
- 3 years paint warranty

5. Performance, Economy and
weights
The top—of—the—range positioning of the New Citroën C6
is
reflected by its engine line—up: two V6 engines, one
petrol and one
diesel, placing the emphasis on driving pleasure and
refinement. A new
HDi 2.7 litre engine develops 208hp and is equipped with
a particulate
filter, while the 3-litre petrol engine develops 215hp.
Both engines
are mated to 6—speed automatic gearboxes and are Euro IV
compliant.
(a)
Petrol engine: 215hp 3.0 V6
This engine delivers 215hp at 6,000 rpm and 214 lb.ft
of
torque at 3,750 rpm. It is fitted with a new exhaust
line and dual—mode
active silencer, which improves both performance and
engine noise. By
redirecting the exhaust gases in the silencer, this
system reduces
engine noise and improves performance under load.
(b)
Diesel engine: 208hp 2.7 V6 HDi
This new V6 diesel engine combines power and fuel
economy, and
was developed as part of the cooperation between the PSA
Group and Ford
Motor Company and is currently fitted to the Jaguar
S—Type. Delivering
a responsive performance from the lowest engine speeds,
it develops
208hp at 4,000 rpm and torque of 325 lb.ft DIN at 1,900
rpm. It
combines smooth, gradual power with exceptional
operating comfort.
Developed specially for luxury cars, this V6 engine uses
advanced
technologies, including electronically controlled
variable geometry
twin turbochargers to achieve high levels of performance
and operating
comfort.
This V6 engine satisfies the Euro IV emission standard
and is
equipped with a new-generation particulate filter, which
only requires
maintenance every 125,000 miles.
Driving pleasure is enhanced not only by these two
engines but also by
a new 6—speed automatic gearbox. The 6 speed
autoadaptative gearbox has
4 management modes for increased driving pleasure: a
standard auto
adaptative mode which recognises driving situations
(braking,
cornering, over—run, inclines, etc), a sport mode for
dynamic driving,
a snow mode and a sequential change mode.
