Citroën has today (10 July
1997) unveiled first details of its new
medium sized family car, the stylish Xsara
(pronounced`zara' ) which will
make its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor
Show this September before going on sale in the UK in
November.
|
|
|
Xsara
will feature a range of high torque petrol
and diesel engines including 2,0 litre, 1,8
litre, 1,6 litre and 1,4 litre petrol as
well as 1,9 litre normally aspirated and
turbocharged diesel powerplants.
Xsara
will initially be offered in a choice of two
bodystyles, a sophisticated yet practical
five door will be followed by a stunning
sports coupé.
|
|
|
Xsara
draws upon Citroën's proven expertise in
suspension design and incorporates a self
steering rear axle for impeccable road
behaviour with a superior blend of
roadholding, agile handling and ride
comfort.
|
|
The
Xsara will join the Citroën range between
the best selling Saxo and the larger Xantia.
Xsara is a bigger car than its predecessor,
the ZX, and at 4.17 m as opposed to 3.72 m
for the Saxo, there is a gap which will be
plugged by Projet T-2,
a re-bodied Peugeot 206.
|
Jean
Marie Walch, Managing Director of Citroën UK
said, `With its flowing good looks, Xsara
will appeal to a wide cross section of
motorists, including private and business
users, each demanding style, refinement,
practicality and comfort in a secure and
safe vehicle.'
