Giant Test

Vauxhall AstraL-v-Citroën GSA Club-v-Peugeot 305GL

PEUGEOT 305

Rides on tiptoe at the back but keeps on a firm footing and can be thrown around. Wheelbase and overall length are longest of the three but only the most room for people, not cargo. However, back seats, easily folded, can be removed giving more space. Ride smooth but with a bit of tyre roar. No match for the others on maximum speed although it feels quite sprightly and it does have the best overall fuel figure.
Rather bulky engine is canted forward to give a low bonnet line.
Conventional dash but with cluttered calibrations.
Details: plenty of legroom in rear for six foot plus passengers; split seat folding; powerful air vents.
Conclusion: Lightweight pleasant and versatile.
