In
1937, Citroën showed the TUB van which anticipated the
architecture of
the modern van with its forward control cab and front
wheel drive lay
out. The mechanical bits were largely inherited
from the Traction - 9
CV engine, three speed gearbox, rack and pinion
steering, hydraulic
brakes and torsion bar suspension. TUB had a
payload of 850 kg.
Production
commenced in 1939 - on the eve of the outbreak of
war. Between 1939
and 1941, a total of 1 748 examples were built -
possibly more since
accurate records were not maintained during the German
occupation.
Some 50 examples were fitted with the 11 CV engine
which allowed an
increased payload of 1 200 kg and these were
designated TUC.
