Malcolm
Bobbitt's
beautifully restored Slough-built 1960 ID19. Purists
might criticise
Malcolm for a number of "not original" features such as
the amber front
indicators (cars of this vintage used white lamps), the
bare metal
auxiliary driving lamps nacelles (they should be painted
in the body
colour - Sherwood Green in this case), the Marchal
headlamps
(Slough-built cars used very poor Lucas units), a
fibreglass roof
replaces the original aluminium one fitted to British cars
and, horror
of horrors, the use of LHM instead of LHS hydraulic
fluid. Malcolm and
I share the view that cars are not museum pieces but are
meant to be
driven and that therefore changes such as the headlamps
and use of LHM
that improve driveability and reliability are perfectly
acceptable.

Note the parking light on the offside B pillar above.
Connolly hide upholstery and wooden dashboard show how
the British
ID
was marketed as a luxury car in its own right, unlike the
French-built
ID which was far more spartan and austere than the
DS.
British IDs also used full size DS wheel embellishers.
